LYRIC OF THE DAY: "Losing love is like a window in your heart...everybody sees you're blown apart, everybody feels the wind blow".

Paul Simon, Graceland

What the hell are Fine Excuses?

Fine Excuses are a band. With four legs. Nick Parton and Johnny Rogers have piloted their rickety musical vessel through the choppy waters of 2006, the raging shitestorms of 2007, and have finally run aground on the crab-infested shores of 2008. It's been a long journey, with no toilet stops.

The band has released two free-to-download EPs so far; 'Hail to the Harmless Grudge' and 'Mild Peril'. A full album's worth of drivel is coming soon. Email us if you want to go on a kind of mailing list thingy. So, come on. Release an excuse into the wild today.

  • Hey all,

It's video time again, but with added tuneage...Enough with all the radiators in the garden, solitary confinement under the stairs, and the fun side of split personalities - here's some music. Enjoy.

    More coming soon...

  • Alright everyone!

To mark the last day of my employment, and the start of a slow descent into freelance lunacy, here is a video where I interview myself about the progress of the new Fine Excuses album.

    I am not mad.

  • Morning!

A random video to kick things off. A reintroduction to the custom Eastleigh studio being used to record the album, and a peek at the fabled leisure facilities that soothe the tortured brain of many an idle musician. Plus, Johnny makes a disembodied appearance, and steals the show as usual.

Videos to come will feature ramshackle performances, split-personality-driven interviews, and wailing treatises on the state of society. Maybe.

  • Alright!

The recordings, confusions and recriminations continue, but here's a mini-break from all that. From the 'Hail..' sessions I stumbled across an extended version of Jackknife, which we originally cut down from about 10 minutes! This version excludes the 4 minute guitar solo(!), but, on reflection, it still sounds a damn sight more complete than the 'Hail..' missive.

Enjoy, should you be curious. Don't let it burn your face off due to its sheer white-hot brilliance, though.

  • Oi!

At last, the site has gotten a facelift! In any case, it points towards the artwork that will accompany the album. The bulk of the recording happened last week, but owing to fact that I'm a lazy sod, there's still tons to do. A video of random nonsense is waiting to be edited, amongst a trillion other things, but by god, it will get done!

Lyrically, there's a lot going in. Some good things, some bad. Some thousand-yard stares, some defensive movements. Some observations, some judgements. Some carbs, some protein. Some anger, some laughter, and a lot more besides. See you soon.

  • Hi folks!

Work starts on the debut Fine Excuses album from today! 12 brand new songs ready to be recorded. Good god, it's taken a lot of effort to get to this point. Sadly, Johnny won't be present for the recording of it, as he is still abroad, terrorizing the globe in his own inimitable, systematic, and unstoppable fashion.

Still, I'll be aiming for a release sometime in September - just in time for the summer to wither and die to make way for 12 Autumnal tracks...Can't wait to get started. I'll likely dole out some random videos and the like to show how it's going at some point. keep an eye out!
